Heart chambers can store more than secrets
grentperez and Lyn Lapid remind us to hold space for others despite the world's attempt to overwhelm our minds
grentperez has been my most recent musical fixation. If you love Laufey, you’ll definitely like Grant Perez—grentperez’s birth name. I’m living for his music, and so is Laufey, as Grant was the opening act on the Australian leg of Laufey’s tour. Beyond my obsession with Mr. Perez’s discography, “Room For You” is by far my favorite song of his. The vocal performance paired with the duet-narrated dialogue makes for an exceptional and cutesy snapshot into the singer's intimate relationship. This song is a short story of sorts that proves to be extremely relatable to me in this liminal period of my life.
“When the odds of it all get in the way. Know I'll be around when you call at the end of the day. Even if the world around you feels like it's all falling apart, there'll forever be a room for you inside of my heart. It's true, there's always room for you, hmm”
The telephone has revolutionized the modern world. Social media is definitely a deadly plague that threatens several fundamental aspects of our society, but I think (at least right now) that the phone as a technological advancement has been mostly beneficial. One such benefit of said device is its ability to grant us hyperconnectivity. As a recent college graduate, I am grateful to still have access to some of my closest friends nearly everyday despite the thousands of miles between us. Of course, Grant’s song is probably more aligned with romantic relationships than platonic ones. Still, these lyrics can hold true for any chosen kinship. “The odds of it all [may] get in the way” but you can always increase the room inside of your heart. Remain vigilant in staying connected to those who have supported you because while the dangers of the real world persist and induce anxiety, we all could use a safe haven in the hearts and homes of our nearest and dearest to survive this phenomenon of life. Call your friend “at the end of the day;” check in on them. Go see them in person, if possible. Let them know you’re thinking of them—plus, it’ll cut down on the time you spend on those brainrot-filled, conspiracy-riddled apps.
